Windsor Leader Jerry Glanz Windsor's Jewish commu- nity is paying tribute to the scholarship and leadership of Jerry Glanz, who died Jan. 15 at age 90• He was a leader in Zionist and community affairs for 60 years. In 1914 he went to Windsor from the United States and His efforts pioneered the Chesed Shel Emes, the pur- chase of Shaarey Zedek cem- etery and a central relief group which later became a branch of the Joint Distribu- tion Committee. Mr. Glanz was one of the founders of IHAS in Canada, and Bnai Brith in Windsor. In the 1930s he was asked by government officials to re- organize Windsor's Welfare Department and the Chil- dren's Aid Society. Until his retirement in 1954 he was president of the Windsor Home Furniture Company Ltd. His wife Dora died in 1953. He served 19 years as president of Cong. Shaer Hashomayim, and was active in Odd Fellows, Moo se Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Sa- Ana, maritans and Rebeccas. Hyman Parker, Director of State Employment Relations Board Hyman Parker. an attorney and director of the Michigan Employment Relations Com- sion (the former Michigan State Labor M edia t i on Board), died Jan. 27 at age 61. Born in New York, Mr. Parker, lived 50 years in De- troit. A graduate of Wayne State University's law school in 1937, Mr. Parker pub- lished articles in many of the law journals. He was a member of the Michigan, American and Federal Bar associations. Mr. Parker was employed by the state for the past 24 years, 18 of which have been spent with the commission. He also was regional attor- ney for the War Labor Board and the Wage Stabilization Board. He has been a labor arbi- trator, had a private practice of labor law and has lectured on labor law at Michigan Dr. B. D. Welling, Longtime Dentist Dr. Benjamin D. Welling, a practicing dentist in De- troit for more than 50 years, died Jan. 24 at age 88. Born in East Jordan, Mich.. Dr. Welling was graduated from the University of Michi- gan in 1914. He was honored in 1964 with four other den- tists at the Statler-Hilton Hotel by the Detroit District Dental Society for 250 years of combined dental practice. He was an active member of many of the local dra- t groups including WWI • Temple Beth El Play- ers and the Ridgedale Play- ers• He was a member of Temple Beth El, Temple Is- rael in Miami, the Great Lake Club, and a life mem- ber and board member of the Jewish Home for the Aged. Dr. Welling was a personal aide to Gen. Gor- gas, builder of the Panama Canal. A former Detroiter, Dr. Welling resided in Miami at the time of his death. He leaves his wife, Helen B.; a son, Robert W.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Westheimer of Cincinnati; and,fiye grandchildren.. • -. 4 universities. In addition to his work with the commis- sion, he was adjunct profes- sor in the business adminis- tration school at the -Univer- sity of Michigan's Dearborn campus. A Hyman Parker Memorial Library Fund has been established there. In 1967 he conducted his own program on Channel 4, "The Arbitrator." He co- authored a pamphlet for the school of labor and indus- trial relations at Michigan State University in coopera- tion with the Michigan State Board of Education. He re- sided at 5185 Cold Spring Ln., West Bloomfield. Mr. Parker was affiliated with the Sholem Aleichem Institute and the Jewish Par- ents Institute.
