"The Mad Adventures of
Rabbi Jacob," a French-pro-
duced comedy with English
subtitles, tells the story of a
French-Catholic factory work-
er who becomes mixed up
with hasidic rabbis • and an
Arab fleeing a revolutionary
tribunal.
The movie, now showing at
the Berkley Theater, centers
around Louis de Funes, who
portrays the factory worker
who dislikes all who are not
French and Catholic. De
Funes, who ends up in a lake
as a result of avoiding an
oncoming car as he rushes to
his daughter's wedding, finds
he must walk the rest of the
way home since his Jewish
chauffeur does not drive on
the Sabbath.
This walk leads him by
chance to meet the revolu-
tionary, and later to Orly Air-
port where the two shave
two newly arrived Lubavitch-
er hasidim and dress in their.
garb.
To confuse matters the
Funes and the revolutionary
in their new costumes are
mistaken for the real Rabbi
Jacob and his assistant from
New York.
The Berkley Theater has a
bargain night Thursdays with
all seats at $1. For show
times, call the theater, 542-
0330.
