His letter stated in part: In our United States of America, whose aim is to promote the life and welfare of human beings, the aged occupy a position of honor and respect. This is not only because all life, regradless of age, is sacred but because the elderly are thought of as those who have a definite contribution to make to so- EDWARD POWERS ciety. It is essential that every- one, while still in his prime, should become aware and work toward the enrichments available for a comfortable interesting and serviceable old age. Social Security has lessened the burden of finan- cial support and cleared the way for time and appreciation of the more meaningful things. Medical car programs for the aging, councils, club rooms, volunteer programs, are all tools to help us "old- sters" make our later years as meaningful as possible. _ For those of us who have not made a rich preparation for our old age, it is not too late. There are opportunities on hand for all of us, sick or well to help ourselves and help each other. A program of friendly visiting among ourselves would serve every- one participating.
