Educators Urged
to Focus on Israel
in School Programs

NEW YORK—"A major ob-
jective of the traditional Jew-
ish educator, in the United
States is the creation of an
Israeli atmosphere within the
Jewish school which will
stimulate students to enrich
their religious and national
consciousness by participat-
ing in an educational experi-
ence in Israel."
lVficha Yinon, the new di-
rector of the department for
Torah education of the World
Zionist Organization—Ameri-
can Section, made this state-
ment to 45 leading Orthodox
Jewish educators who attend-
ed the Torah Department's
Jerusalem educators two-
week winter seminar co-
sponsored by the Board of
Jewish Education of Greater
New York and the Educators
Council of America.
Dr. Alvin I. Schiff, BJE
executive v i c e president,
pledged that he would make
every effort to eventually
make it possible for every
Jewish educator in Greater
New York to participate in
the BJE Israel educational
seminars.
The educators, among them
leading yeshiva day and high
school principals, head teach_
ers, supervisors of bureaus of
Jewish education, educational
administrators- and curricula
consultants were granted
leave by their respective
schools and agencies so that
they may share experiences
with Israeli educators, ob-
serve innovative curricula,
instructional techniques and
pedagogic material in Is-
rael's school systems and
visit with American students
in Israeli high schools and
r~o lleges of Jewish studies.

Technion Receives
Architecture Prizes

HAIFA — The faculty of
architecture and town plan-
ning of the Technion-Israel
Institute of Technology has
named winners of the Abra-
ham and Deborah Sagorsky
Prizes in Architecture and
Town Planning for 1974.
First prize recipient, Jean
Michel Guldman of the Tech-
nion's faculty of architecture
and town planning, was cited
for his work: "Optimization
Models for Air Pollution Con-
trol and Industry Location
Policy—Application to Haifa
Metropolitan Area."
The Sagorsky prizes were
established 10 years ago by
Dr. Deborah Sagorsky of
Capetown, South Africa for
graduates of the Technion
and the Hebrew University
of Jerusalem making impor-
tant contributions in the
areas of architecture and
urban planning.

sued a 111-page publication
listing more than 700 selected
books and multi media ma-
terials in an effort to streng-
then Jewish identity.
"Aspects of Jewish Life"
