none of them really achieved
their objective.
All of them had demanded

Israelis Injured in Search

for Terrorists 111 Le banon

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Eight
Israeli soldiers were slightly
injured Tuesday when hand
grenades were thrown at
them from a house in- Shuba
village as they crossed into
Lebanon in search for Arab
terrorists.
The search action- began
immediately after • darkness.
One unit entered Shuba and
began a house - to - house
search coming under fire.
The soldiers assaulted the
houses which were the source
of the shooting and demol-
ished them. Another. -unit
blew up a culvert on a road
north of Shuba to hamper
the movement. of terrorists
in the area. s
The grenade incident took
place when the soldiers heard
loud voices of women from
one of the Shuba houses and
called on the inhabitants to
come out.
When they did, the Israelis
approached them and, at_ that
moment, hand grenades were
thrown at the soldiers and
the women, injuring the eight
soldiers.

fense minister, and Gen.
Mordechai Gur, chief of staff,
watched the operations from
an advance command post in
northern Israel.
Smaller Israeli units
blocked the roads near Shuba
and others served as cover
to the main Israeli force, the
heaviest yet against Fatah-
land, the Israeli description
for the Lebanese sector next
to Israel's northern border.
Lebanese newspapers have
been calling the raids, "the
war of Southern Lebanon."
A terrorist radio announced
that Israelis had created an
artillery fire barrage around
Shuba to protect the comb-
ing operation.
Observers at vantage point
said many –of the villagers
were fleeing northward from
Shuba, pulling carts with
household articles with them.
It was reported in Paris
that the terrorist bazooka
. 'attack at Orly Airport Mon-
day narrowly missed an El Al
jet in take off and severely
damaged a parked Yugoslav-
ian airliner and injured sev-
eral' people slightly. It ap-
peared to have its most dev-
astating effect on France's
Middle East policy.
French government sources
were unable to conceal their
embarrassment over the fact
that France's pro-Arab stance
and especially its sympathy
with the Palestinian cause,
did not render Orly immune
from -a terrorist outrage. _
The mass circulation
France-Soir noted in an edi-
torial that "France is no

longer a sanctuary exempt
because of its Arab policy
and its stand in favor of get-
ting the international com-
munity to recognize the Pal-
estinian realty"
A statement by the Coun-
cil of JeWish Intellectuals for
Israel said the bazooka at-
tack was one of "the bigger
fruits of the recent encour-
agement given to Yasir Ara-
fat "by the French foreign
minister three monthsago....
The militant Zionist Social-
ist Students Liaison Commit-
tee (CLESS) held President
Valery Giscard D'Estaing di-
rectly responsible for the at-
tack at Orly which it said
"reaffirmed the Palestinian
desire to find a fin-al solu-
tion to the Jewish people."
Accounts of the Orly at-
tack and evidence collected
by police made it almost a
certainty that the El Al
plane with 143 persons aboard
on a flight to New York-was
the terrorists' target. The
Black September claimed re-
sponsibility Monday, and de-
nied any connection with the
incident Tuesday..
Police combed cheap _hotels
in the Latin Quarter which
are favored by young Arab
students sympathetic to the
Palestinian cause. But they
were not optimistic about
prospecs of finding the Orly
terrorists.
The get - away car was
found abandoned in a suburb
south of Paris. Meanwhile,
the government increased se-
curity measures at Orly by
posting an extra 100 members
of the elite CRS force there.

Kreisky Proposes
U.S., Soviet UN
Troops in Mideast

THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
Friday, January 17, 1975-13

V A DU Z . , Liechtenstein
(JTA)—Austrian Chancellor
Bruno Kreisky has proposed
the stationing of U.S. and
Soviet troops in the United
Nations peace units in the
Middle East. Kreisky told
journalists that "a long-
ranee military solution in the
Middle East -was impossible
and would lead to 'the de-
struction of the Jewish
state."
Kreisky said the two su-
perpowers should guarantee
the frontiers of all Middle
East states. "They should
dispatch units of their own
into the United Nations peace
corps as a contribution to
saving the peace in the area."_
Commenting on statements
of Secretary of State Henry
A. Kissinger on possible mil-
itary actions against oil pro-
ducing countries, Kreisky
said: "There cannot be any
strategy directed against oil
producers, but only collabo-
ration between producers
and consumers. Any military
action would be completely:
senseless."
Kreisky said Israel eventu-
ally would have to accept
negotiations wit h under-
ground or terrorists organi-
zations. "Many. other states
have already been forced to
accept the same necessity."
The Austrian Chancellor is
planning to head a second
fact finding mission- of the
Socialist International to the
Middle East within the next
few months.
