Goldmann Faces Opposition in WJC

Moslems Must Unite

hated PLO.
According to Klarman and
his Herut_ colleagues, such
views expressed by the presi-
dent of the World Jewish Con-
gress are politically harmful
to Israel and the Zionist
movement. Klarman urged
the WZO executive to revise
the terms of its agreement
with the WJC. Under the
agreement, the WZO has
greater representation on the
governing bodies of the WJC

NEW YORK — In a recent
speech to pilgrims in Mecca,
King Faisal appealed to all
Moslems to unite, saying: "It
is our duty to show solidarity
with each other and adhere
to our- religion because this
will serve our interests and
realize victory for Moslems.
"We realized victory (in
the 1973 war) because the
soldiers on the Suez Canal
and the Golan Heights ad-
hered to Islamic beliefs and
had faith in God . Israeli
aggressions are aimed at de-
stroying Moslems and other
Arabs. But we have great
hope to r e g a i n our Holy
Places (in Jerusalem) and
defeat them soon."

because the activities of both
organizations often overlap.
But the-WZO- as such has
no control over WJC organi-
zational matters. The WZO
executive rejected Klarman's
demand that it go on record
in opposition to Gold'mann's
re-election but he asked to
be permitted to continue the
struggle because "it is a
matter of conscience for
me."
Rumors had it that Klar-

Minister Abba Eban to re-
place Goldmann as head of
the WJC. When a colleague
pointed out that "even he
(Eban) does not rule out con-
tact with the PLO," Klarman
retorted. "Who said it is a
he? I mean a she." This led
to speculation that the Herut
bloc would, support former
Premier Golda Meir for the
WJC presidency. But Klar-
man refused to elaborate and
the matter has never been
taken up with Mrs. Meir.

TEL AVIV — It was re-
ported that Abu Iyad, the
second ranking leader of El
Fatah, under Yasir Arafat
and the leader of the Black
September organization, said
the projected meeting to
reconcile the Arab position
on the Palestinian question
was doomed to failure, ac-
cording to Kuwait's Al Watan
newspaper.
The meeting h ad been
agreed upon by the Rabat
summit conference to resolve
jurisdictional differences be-
tween Jordan and the Pal-
estinian groups.
Referring to Hussein, Iyad
repeated previous statements
accepting responsibility for
plotting to assassinate the
Jordanian king, saying: "I
execute the decision by the
(El Fatah) movement's rev-
olutionary council, and the
decision remains to liquidate
the King's regime."
