NEW YORK — Harry E.

JERUSALEM — Israeli
sources are smiling at a re-
cent British-Egyptian auto-
mobile manufacturing pact,
and have also been assured
that the British company,
Leyland, will honor its pres-
ent contract with Israel for
chassis and spare parts for
the Israeli plant at Ashdod.
Spokesmen were original-
ly concerned that Leyland
would hedge on its Israeli
contract as part of the Egyp-
tian deal, but have been as-
sured that Leyland will hon-
or its Israeli contract.
They also said that the
contract with the British was
not a good one for the Egyp-
tians because cheaper alter-
natives to Leyland transpor-
tation were available.
