Terrorist Acts

The tragic incident in East
Jerusalem, which maimed a
young girl for life, caused
the Detroit News to write an
editorial Dec. 24 on how
Arab and Irish "Terrorists
Take No Holiday."
Portions of that editorial
are re-printed here:
The terrorist, be he Irish-
man or Arab, compulsively
reveals the true nature of
his dementia during the
Christmas period.
In London, the Provisional
ing of the Irish Republican
..rmy sets off bombs among
Christmas shoppers in de-
partment stores. The Pales-
tinians lob a hand grenade
at a Christian tour bus filled
with tourists on pilgrimage.
Those who wish to study
the nature of terrorism can
find no better example than
the grenading of the bus,
parked near the Biblical site
of the tomb of Lazarus.
The tourists had visited
the ruins of Bethany, which
are in an Arab village, and
just after they boarded the
bus, a man on a roof tossed
the grenade.
Injured was a 16-year-old
Jacksonville, Fla., girl who
was with her friends of the
Main Street Baptist Church
on a Holy Land tour.
One may ask: What has a
16-year-old Baptist girl from
Jacksonville, Fla., ever done
to merit being the target for
a grenade?
• The incident demonstrates
the craven nature of the ter-
rorist who sets out to injure
the innocent by an act of
cowardice. He pulls the pin,
tips the grenade over the
parapet and runs.
A Palestinian group based
in Lebanon proudly claims
the credit for this act. It
warns the Christians to stay
away from their holy places,
located in what the terrorists
call occupied Palestinian ter-
ritory.
One speech in the United
Nations has not changed the
elemental nature of the Pal-
estinian terrorist — which is
that of an insensitive, un-
reasoning, cruel, cowardly
predator who has a prefer-
ence for attacking children.
All this is not to say the
terrorist is worse at Christ-
mas. We just see the wild-
eyed radical with clearer
vision during the season of
brotherly love.

Music Critic Drops
UNESCO Work

BUEr -OS AIRES (JTA) —
orge D'Urbano, secretary
n e r a 1 of the Argentine
'ademy of Arts, has in-
-med UNESCO that he will
no longer participate in its
programs unless Israel is in-
cluded in UNESCO activities
on a basis of equality with
all member countries.
D'Urbano, a music critic,
wrote to UNESCO that he
was withholding an article it
had requested him to write
on Latin American music in
protest against UNESCO's
recent exclusion of Israel
from t h e activities of its
European region.
He said that he "considers
it paradoxical that an inter-
national cultural organization
casts aside a country that
represents one of the most
ancient cultures and civiliza-
tions."
