NEW YORK — Protestant
theologian A. Roy Eckardt
has described anti-Semitism
as "the rape of the dignity
of the Jews" at a recent
Anti-Defamation League ses-
sion on anti-Semitism.
Dr. Eckardt, a Methodist
clergyman and chairman of
religion studies at Lehigh
University, told the session,
"For untold centuries, Christ-
endom sought to marry the
devil to the Jewish peiple

to Christendom and the non-
Jewish world."
The ADL Bulletin reported
that Dr. Eckardt believes
that anti-Israel and anti-
Zionist statements stem from

ceremonies for Sister Rose
Thering, of Seton Hall Uni-
versity, who was honored for
her work in behalf of Israel,
Soviet Jewry and better
Christian understanding of
Jews and Judaism.

Shapero School
Trustees Named

The board of trustees of
Sinai Hospital of Detroit re-
cently elected four, new mem-
bers to the board of trustees
of the Shapero School of
Nursing.
Elected to three-year terms
on the board were Mrs. Ju-
lius Allen, Mrs. Arnold Cohen
and Susan Karabelnick. Mrs.
Helen Schultz, LPN, was
elected for a one-yea• term.
She is a graduate of the Sha-
pero School and the first LPN
to be elected to serve on its
board.
Officers for the ensuing
year were appointed at the
recent annual meeting of the
Shapero School's board of
trustees. Herbert A. Aronsson
and Dr. Robert Luby, were
reappointed president and
vice president,. respectively.
Also appointed to one-year
terms were Elaine Jacob;
treasurer; Mrs. Joseph Fen-
ton, •corresponding secretary;
and Lawrence Michelson, re-
cording secretary.
