Who Needs Sugar?

• Sugar too has gone sky
high, but after all, who needs
sugar? Can you drive a :car
with it or warm a room?
Remember your parents or
maybe fo'ur grandparents. I
remember in our house the
children would mish two, tea-
spoons '\of sugar in the tea,
but dict • papa do it? He
wouldic f be so extravagant.
_ ,take a small cube
He world
Ordsingar and hold it in
mouth–and with that, one
ce, drink five cups of tea.
It wasLlike drinking one
of those -_!lietetic sugarless
drinks of today. The drink
tasted sweet, but you got less
in your body. It saved ex-
pense and_ didn't add to your
weight. I recall the old time
Jews sitting and drinking
this way_ and studying the
Gemara at the same time.
It made for a slower pace of
10- drinking . and the slower
rhythm. communicated itself
0`- to the study which made for
better learning too. Now and
then some of the old time
Jews might even pretend to
put sugar in the tea.. At Tip-
toe Inn in New York a- group
of Zionist leaders were sit-
ting. Dr..Weizinann watching
another Jew at a neighboring
table, turned to Louis Lipsky.
Er iz a Minsker socher. Er
mischt aber legt nit arein.

Minsk. He stirs and Manipu-
lates but doesn't invest.)
There are many substitutes
for sugar. Sweet are the uses
of adversity, said Shake-
speare. Try putting a little
adversity in the tea.
The rabbis said, "The

convention of the United
Synagogue Youth, reported
•
Rabbi Herman Savitz, spiri-
tual leader of the suburban
Community.
According to Rabbi Savitz,
police could not determine
the nature of the object be-
cause nothing of it was left
intact. He said a -window was
blown out by the object and
that flying glass slightly in-
jured several girls. The inci-
dent did not prevent the con-
vention from continuing.
He told the JTA that the
Jewish Center, which also
houses a synagogue has re-
cently been smeared by
hand-painted swastikas and
anti-Jewish obscenities. Rab-
bi Savitz said that neither he
nor the police have been
able to -identify the vandals
nor those who tossed the ob-
ject into the center.
