At 4 p.m. Linda thun- dered in from school with three excited friends, follow- ed a few minutes later by four more . . . After a brief lull, three more arrived . . . Finally the last youngster dashed upstairs . . . All this confusion was suddenly fol- lowed by a great silence .. . Alice went upstairs to inves- tigate and found a roomful of surprised and wide-eyed faces .. . After a distressed pause, Linda - said softly, "There's nobody to call— we're all here."
