According to Rabbi Yosef,
neither the pill nor any other
form of contraception is al-
lowable under Jewish law ex-
cept in the direst medical
circumstances.
Rabbi Goren has ruled that
the pill could be taken, but
only by mothers whi:. have
fulfilled their religious oblig-
ations by giving birth to at
least one boy and one girl.
Rabbi Yosef contended that
Goren's ruling was "damag-
ing" in that it could "weak-
en' the faith" of women who
accept it.
He said that in his opinion
the pill could be taken only
by women whose lives would
be endangered by pregnancy
or Would suffer extreme
pain. - He insisted that the
economic situation of v the
family was not an allowable
factor. "He who gives life
will also provide nourish-
ment," said Rabbi Yosef.
French Synagogue
Attacked Again

(JTA) — Unknown Vandals
once again attacked the syna-
gogue and Jewish community
center of this Paris suburb,
damaging ,the exterior of the
youth club and breaking win-
dows. •
The president of the Jewish
community, Charles Haba-
boti, reported the attack to
the regional prefect who ex-
pressed his "concern" about
the incident and assured the
community of the vigilance
of the police to prevent fur-
ther such incidents.
Hababou speculated that
the vandalism was committed
by persons living near the
synagogue-. There were 'sim-
ilar attacks several months
ago.
Anti-Semitic and Anti-Israel Graffiti Seen in NY Subways
NEW YORK (JTA)—Anti-
Semitic, anti-Israel and pro-
Palestine Liberation Organi-
zation graffiti has begun
showing up in city subway
.stations rand trains.
Several persons reported
that the graffiti included
statements such as "Kill a
Jew today and tomorrow
you'll feel better"; "The
PLO lives, Israel won't much
lenger"; "Get Israel out of
the Middle East, Palestine- for
the Palestinians." In addition,
drawings of swastikas ap-
peared alongside several of
these remarks. Smile reports
say this graffiti began to
appear about the time that
PLO leader Yasir Arafat ad-
dressed the United Nations
General Assembly.
A copy of a letter corn-
'plaining about this situation
was received by the JTA
Monday. The letter, signed
by Alex D. Novitsky of the
Jewish Journal in • Brooklyn,
