UN M.E. Force
Is Renewed

UNITED NATIONS (JTA)
—The mandate of the United
Nations Disengagement Ob-
server Force between Israeli
and Syrian forces on the Go-
lan Heights was extended by
the Security Council Nov. 29
for six months.
China and Iraq did not take
part in the vote, as they did
not in the vote extending the
life of UN forces in the buffer
zone in the Sinai desert. The
UNDOF resolution was spon-
sored by Austria, Cameroon,
Indonesia, Kenya, Mauritania
and Peru.
Yosef Tekoah, the Israeli
Ambassador -to •the UN, said
the extension was a "positive
development," that UNDOF
was an essential part of the
Israeli-Syrian disengagement
and that "proper observance"
of the agreement required
"the continued funct':—' - v"
of UNDOF.
Secretary General
art
Waldheim, speaking before
the vote, said that on the
basis of his Mideast trip last
week he believed "all gov-
ernments concerned are an-
xious to reach a settlement
through negotiations."
