training of personnel to edu-

needs, including those who
are mentally retarded, be-
haviorally disordered o r
learning disabled.

Under the grant, the de-
partment awards research
and teaching assistantships to
full-time students working
toward the master's or doc-
toral degree in special edu-
cation. In addition, several
fellowship have been award-
ed to doctoral-level students
with a commitment toward
pursuing careers working
with severely impaired chil-
dren.
