Rabin Pressured on Unity Coalition

JERUSALEM •(JTA)—
Pressure on Premier Yitz-
hak Rabin to form a national
unity government has mount-
ed both from within and out-
side his coalition. It has
reached a point many ob-
servers believe, where the
premier will have no choice
but to acquiesce.
Information Minister Aha-
ron Yariv publicly declared
himself in favor of such a
move in a radio interview.
Tourism Minister Moshe
Kol reportedly has requested

ability to govern alone.
Labor Party cabinet minis-
ters appear to be evenly di-
vided on the issue. Rabin
himself has taken no stand
one way or another on a
unity government, and on
several occasions he has ex-
pressed his "non-opposition"
to such a regime.
But he is aware of the ob-

Many observers believe
Likud may safely be brought
into the government now that
the potentially devisive issue
of negotiations with Jordan
on the future of the West
Bank is in abeyance. The
emergence of the PLO has
rendered such negotiations
more remote than ever.
Moreover, the observers
note the Rabin government is
pledged in any event to call
new elections to ratify any
settlement that may eventu-
ally come up over the West
Bank.

Israeli Communists
Declare for Zionism

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Maki,
the Israeli Communist Party
that is independent of Mos-
cow, has declared itself to
be a Zionist party and as
such will join the World Jew-
ish Congress and attend its
plenary session next Febru-
ary.
Maki leaders Yair Tzaban
and Paul Teitelbaum said at
a press conference here • that
their faction supports an all-
out war against terrorist or-
ganizations, though at the
same time it supports the
principle of a Palestinian na-
tional entity.
They called on the govern-
ment to declare its readiness
to negotiate with any quali-
fied and authorized Palestin-
ian faction that recognizes
Israel's right to exist and is
prepared to live in peace
with Israel.
The Maki position differs
sharply from that of the pro-
Moscow Rakah Communist
Party. Rakah has four Knes-
set seats. Maki, which did
not run a separate list in the
last elections, has no repre-
sentation in the Knesset.

As it opens he "gets the willies." At the end he is "in command."

What happens in Something Happened happens to Bob Slocum
—in his forties, contending with his office, at grips with his wife,
his daughter and his son (and his other son), with his past and
a
with his present.
Slocum (like his own children, like all children) was once a
darling — new, valuable, eagerly waiting to grow up, alight wish
expections of the good life sure to come. Now he is what he is,
and his life is what it is.

What happened? (What happens?)

Something.
