Bnai David. Levin said that we are now witnessing the same pattern Hitler and his storm troop- ers- used — killing countless people, smashing homes and diSrupting communities. The author remarked, "In the 1930s no one listened and the whole world suffered. In his 80-minute speech, Levin continuously reminded his audience that the possibility of a second Holocaust is very real. Levin asserted that the on- ly chance in the situation to- day is "the basic one of Jew- ish philosophy; following what is right and warning people of what will prevail." Discussing American Jew- ish writers, Levin remarked, "Many authors. are hesitant IMPORTERS CF RARE GEMS-0\1ES CREATORS CF AWARD WINNING JEWELRY WHETHER A DIAMOND FROM SOUTH AFRICA, A RUBY OR SAPPHIRE FROM THE FAR EAST OR AN EMERALD, AQUAMARINE OR TOURMALINE FROM SOUTH AMERICA, WE, AT DAVID WACHLE: & SONS CAN USE THEM TO CREATE AN INDIVIDUAL PIECE OF JEWELRY JUST FOR YOU. • DIAMONDS INTERNATIONAL AWARD '71 • AMERICAN DIAMOND JEWELRY COMPETITION '72 • AMERICAN DIAMOND JEWELRY COMPETITION '73 n faViU ) 1 acnter anclAc ► (R:ative yowlers 24700 NORTH WESTERN HWY. IJ to be branded Jewish writ- ers. An author should not be ashamed to say 'I am a Jew- ish writer'." According to the author, "Some of the highest intel- lects control Jewish culture in this country today. Levin gave his experiences with the book "The Diary of Anne Frank" as an example. "I first read the diary in France and contacted Anne's father to arrange to trans- late the book into English. I felt the Holobaust was a unique occurence in man's history. "Many American critics and fellow writers criticized my move and I was even called 'insane': Parts of the diary were censored from the movie and play version. • "It is incredible to believe that in the United States the original version is being per- formed by various groups secretly." When Levin published "The Settlers," "a Maifia-like sil- ence prevailed, with no ma- jor reviews published," he complained. "As more Jewish material is given this silent treatment the Jewish struggle' will di- minish, and people will be- gin to reason that Jekvs in Israel are worse to the Arabs than Nazis were to Jews," according to Levin. Summarizing - his latest novella, "The Spell of Time," Levin said, "I wrote a book just for- enjoyment. The story was developed from the founder of Hasidism,. Rabbi. Israel, the Baal Shem Tov. "According to the saga, the physical order of the uni- verse may be altered only for the sake of fulfilling a predestined love. I tried to create an old fable in the modern sense." Levin is also the author of "Compulson" and "The Old Bunch." - Business Briefs AMERICAN SAVINGS ASSOCIATION announced a major re-alignment in its branch management staff. Rollin L.
