in Israel's current economic
crisis.
The matter is considered
urgent in view of the auster-
ity economic measures im-
posed on the public last
week.
Finance Minister Yehoshua
Rabinowitz announced h e
was appointing a committee
to examine means for sav-
ing petroleum and electric
power. He said he would also_
appoint a public committee
to study working conditions
at government-controlled cor-
porations with a view to re-
ducing power consumption.
Similar directives have
been issued by Minister of
Commerce a n d Industry
Haim Barley. He asked the
ministers of labor and in-
terior to see whether 'street
lighting and lighting on high-
ways can be cut down.

The Israel .Electric Corp.
is expected to issue a ban on
the use of electric power for
display advertising and shop
windows after 9 p.m. with
severe penalties for viola-
tors.
Meanwhile, Labor Minister
Moshe Baram and Education
and Culture Minister Aharon
Yadlin, announced that they
were closing their Tel Aviv
offices.
They are following the ex-
ample set last week by In-
formation Minister Aharon
Yariv who closed his office
to eliminate a duplicate fa-
cility and end fuel-consum-
ing trips between the capital
and Tel Aviv.
Foreign Minister Yigal Al-
Ion ordered a series of ex-
pense-cutting . measures . in
his ministry. The number of
overseas trips will be re-

duced, the expense accounts
of foreign service employes
abroad will be cut, their use
of cars will be limited and
several Israeli consulates
will be closed.
The Knesset Finance Corn-
mittee appointed a subcom-
mittee to review exemptions
to the travel tax and severe-
ly limit them.
Israelis who travel abroad
now pay a flat travel tax
plus 15 per cent of the cost
of their ticket. But there is
along list of exemptions in-
cluding airline and travel
agency employes, and new
immigrants.
Similar measures were an-
nounced by the Jewish Ag-
ency Executive last week.
There will be a 25 per cent
cut in the expense accounts
of Agency and World Zionist
Organization officials and
Agency employes working

abroad.
Emissaries posted overseas
will be required to cut their
travel expenses by 20 per
cent. The Executive also an-
nounced an 18-month mora-
torium on hiring new em-
ployes and decided not to fill
positions vacated by retiring
officials.

various options on amnesty
involved in President Ford's
announcement in October.
Persons seeking amnesty
must appear before the ap-
propriate government agency
before Jan. 31. The amnesty
counseling service is- avail-
able to all families and in-
