and more than 20 injured in
a terrorist assault on r an
apartment building in the
new immigrant township of
(Beth Shean village) before
dawn Tuesday.
Three terrorists who occu-
pied the building for nearly
three hours were killed in a
fierce gun and grenade bat-
tle with Israeli security

bodies as members of the
Popular Democratic Front
for the Liberation of Pales-
tine, a Beirut-based terrorist

watmeh, one of Yassir Ara-
fat's closest associates with-
in the Palestine Liberation
Organization.

First reports identified the
victims as Yehuda Beibas, a
middle-aged textile worker,
his wife, Zohara, and Mrs.
Mazal Be Eri, an elderly
woman staying with the Bei-
bas family, all killed when
the terrorists broke into their
flat by kicking down the door
and spraying the rooms with
machinegun bullets.
A fourth victim was identi-
fied as Sean Pierre Alami
who reportedly broke his
back jumping from a window
to escape the terrorists.
The attack, in the rainy
pre-dawn chill when most of
the victims were asleep, was
the first terrorist outrage of
its kind since the assault on
Nahariya last June and the
first since PLO chief Yassir
Arafat's inflammatory speech
at the UN.
Beisan, located southeast
of Tiberias and only three
miles from the Jordanian
border, was the first terror-
ist target not near the Leb-

Information Minister Aha-
ron Yariv said Tuesday that
the burden of proof was in
Jordanian authorities to show
that they were not involved
in this latest outrage and did
not encourage it.
Beisan is populated mainly
by immigrants from North
Africa. According to infor-
mation pieced together from
early reports, the terrorists
entered the town under cover
of darkness .and broke into
a four-story building that
housed about 60 adults and
children.
They went from floor to
floor, shooting through doors
and kicking at doors until
they broke into the Beibas
flat. Neighbors awakened by
the gunfire called police who
arrived quickly., By then
residents of the building,
adults and children, were
jumping from windows and
