- Flint Hasidic Happening Nears Flint Will Show Flint UJA Hears Discussions `L'Hayirn—to Life" of Grave Tasks of Modern Israel "L'Hayim—to Life", a film Bringing the news of the death of a family member is not a pleasant task, but it is one of several volunteer jobs that modern Israelis must as- sume. Speaking to Flint United Jewish Appeal workers, Yael Bar-Zakai, an assistant pro- fessor of Hebrew literature and language at Tel Aviv University, talked about the duties of a modern Israeli. _ She recalled that in 1948 she was trapped between falling walls in Jerusalem, and was finally rescued after two days' entrapment. Miss Bar - Zakai talked about the jubilation that spread throughout the newly proclaimed state. of Israel in 1948 and the subsequent bombings and deaths, espe- cially those of her two un- cles, that followed. Her biggest suffering came, however, in the Yom Kippur Comings ... and ... During that war she was again called back into the army when she was first as- signed to aid in the hospitals. Later, she was assigned to tell families of soldiers that their sons, fathers or uncles lost their lives. But her duties are not all unpleasant. She helps immi- grants become absorbed into Israel, a service she began performing in the 1950s as a teen-ager.
