He said UNICEF has re- cently approved an Israeli government request for re- habilitation of schools and health centers damaged in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Dr. Saidman wrote, "UNICEF receives funds from 120 nations, and dis- perses these funds to 112 de- serving nations. As a country becomes better able to serve its own needs, it is dropped from the aid list. "As a matter of fact, Saudi Arabia has not been allo- cated funds since 1971. Dur- ing 1974-75 the government of Saudi Arabia will donate $1,000,000 to UNICEF." Dr. Saidman chided Rabbi Goldman's references to "little Jewish trick or treat- ers" as demeaning, and said the letter could spread ill feelings toward the Jewish community. In response to a Jewish News query, World-Union Press correspondent David Horowitz at the UN said that "Rabbi Goldman m a y be right on Halloween. How- ever, I believe he is wrong on UNICEF." Horowitz said UNICEF serves children around the world regardless of r c e , color or creed, "It is one of the positive UN agen- cies . . . The suit was first brought by the congregations in 1940 when the Oppenheim family, the trustees, reorganized tbe cemetery as a non-profit cor- poration. Purchasers of lots became the owners and monies from these purchases w e r e deposited into two funds, one to pay for current cemetery maintenance, and the other to provide for the cemetery's maintenance when it is filled. The congregations, relying on an earlier interest in the cemetery brought suit charg- ing that they were entitled to the funds raised by tht ceme- tery. That suit and a later suit in 1960 were both dis- missed. The congregations, now since merged with other synagogues, brought the cur- rent suit in January based on ,depositions they had ob- tained explaining that be- cause of their earlier interest in the cemetery they were still-entitled to participate in the cemetery control. However, since they had allowed for so much time to pass, that the court advised that the suit be dismissed. rHAL GORDO Musical Entertainglent Big Bands or Small Combos Prescription / --N Optical Co. // 26001 COOLIDGE OAK 626-3346 HWY PARK 543 3343 L F pieces,' favors, & invitations for all occasions,...
