Pinhas Sapir's Quiet -Wedding

By MOSHE RON

Special Jewish News
Israel Correspondent

Only a few close friends
and relatives knew - in ad-
vance about Pinhas. Sapir's
recent marriage. His. daugh-
ter Rina Tal who is liVing
with her family in a modest
house near her father's
wooden house, called for
him. Sapir has been living_ in
this house in Kfar Saba for
dozens of years and refused
to change it for a modern
house.
Sapir has two daughters, a
son and eight- grandchildren.
He spends weekends'and hol-
idays with- his children and
grandchildren, and during
the week he is busy with
meetings and conferences in
his offices in Jerusalem and
Tel-Aviv from early in the
morning until late at night.
Often, when in a meeting,
Sapir closes his eyes, but
concentrates h i s throughts
and listens to each word.
Sometimes he "wakes "up"
and makes a suitable com-
ment. Now, after his mar-
riage to Rivka Elnaton, it is
belieVed, that she will slow
his 18 hour work day and
ensure his rest.
Rivka Elnaton is 51 years
old. Her husband died seven
years ago. She has two chil-
dren; a son, Danny, who is
now' a soldier and a daughter,
Hadas, a student.

Twenty years ago 'she
started to work in the Labor
Council in Jerusalem. After-
wards she worked as secre-
tary to the General Secre-
tary of the Labor Council in
Jerusalem, Moshe Baram,
who is now minister of la-
bor. She was active in the
"Hagana" and helped organ-
ize the illegal Alyia in the
time of the British Mandate.
Two years ago she was
elected secretary of the Or-
g,anization of Working
Mothers in Jerusalem. On
rare occasions she has pub-
lished her views in the in-
ternal bulletin of the Labor
Party, saying that the Israeli
woman was discriminated
against in the Parliament
and in social life.
Immediately after her wed-
ding, Rivk a Sapir relin-
quished her job, and moved
to her husband's house in
Kfar Saba.

An aged man, whom Abra-
ham hospitably invited to his
tent, refused to join him in
prayer to the one spiritual.
God. Learning that he was a
fire - worshipper, Abraham
drove him from 'his door.
That night God. appeared to
Abraham in a vision and
said: "I have borne with that
ignorant man for_ seventy
years; could you not have
patiently suffered him one
night?"—Midrash
