Academy Expands Service to Canada LOS ANGELES — The re- cently established Academy for Jewish Studies Without Walls, which offers home- study courses in Jewish his- tory, tradition, and culture, has expanded its operations to include Canada, and may soon be operating in Britain and several Western Euro- pean counries. The academy, launched this yeir by the American Jewish Committee in coop- eratio• with the University of Haifa, has a current en- rollment of more than 300 students • from 30 states in the U.S., the District of Co- lumbia, and a few foreign t r i e s. The university nts scholastic credit for each completed course. Ini- tial funding for the project was provided by the Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights. Expansion of the academy to include students in other countries was announced by Yehuda Rosenman, director of the academy, who is also director of AJC's Department of•Jewish Communal Affairs. While most of the students are Jewish, about 8 per cent are members of other reli- gions, and 9 per cent gave no indication of religion. Al- though the courses are open to anyone with a high school diploma, more than 75 per cent of those now enrolled are college graduates, and more than 60 per cent of them have had post graduate training. ORTHIANO Bete Klarsfeld Arrested in Rabat PARIS, (JTA)—Nazi-hunt- er Beate Klarsfeld was ar- rested Sunday by Moroccan authorities in Rabat for dis= tributing pamphlets demand- ing that the Arab countries "let Israel live in peace." Mrs. Klarsfeld, a German citizen, told journalists just. before her arrest that she was distributing the litera- ture to express the "solidar- ity between the German peo- ple and the Jewish people." She added that while the rights of Palestinians should be taken into consideration, uting her tracts in front of the ministry of information in Rabat when she was ar- rested. According to the In- ternational League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism (LICA) in Paris, Mrs. Klars- feld in her statement urged the Arab countries to devote their time and resources to the social development of their countries rather than to making war against Israel. She concluded by exhort- Mg the. Arabs not to try to find a final solution to the state of Israel "as Hitler searched for a final solution to the Jewish problem." Mrs. Klarsfeld, a German housewife who is married to a French Jew, gained public notice several months ago when she attempted to ab- duct Nazi war criminal Kurt Lischka. and bring him to justice in France.
