Meyer Levin's New Novel, 'Spell of Time,'
- Assumes Glory With Son Eli's Art Work

Applauds Action by Vigilantes

With his new novel, "The
Spell of Time," (Praeger),
Meyer. Levin, who already
has to his credit several best
sellers and a number of very
controversial books, gains
new glory. -
The subject itself is unique:
the love story is intertwined
with mysticism, and the fu-
sion of science with the spell
of Kabbalism lends unusual
interest to a novel that
emerges challenging its moti:
vations.'
Adding unusual intimacy
to this impressive story is a
familial note: the 10 pen-
and-ink illustrations in the
book are by his son Eli. As
the accornpaying reproduc-
tion indicates, an artist of
note now shares eminence in
the Meyer Levin. family.

NEW YORK (JTA) — The
Jewish Defense League said
that the three men who broke
into the Palestine Liberation
Organization headquarters
here Tuesday afternoon and
beat up an employe after
firing several shots at him
were not JDL members but
part of "an unorganized mili-
tant Jewish group.'
Ben-Zvi, a JDL executive
board member, said that his
group applauded the action
and "will give our whole-
• earted; 100 per cent support
to the three, including sup-
plying a lawyer and bail if
that beco mes necessary
should they be apprehended."
According to Ben-Zvi, the
JDL was "contacted" by the
trio before the attack and
was told, "we feel that ter-
rorists have to be treated
with their own methods."
Ben-Zvi asserted that one
reason the JDL approved of
the attacks was a statement
by a PLO spokesman last
week describing - New York
as a little Tel Aviv.
"We agree with that state-
ment," Ben-Zvi said, "and
we are determined to prove
that he isn't wrong."
According to reoprts, the
three men claiming at first
to be members of the JDL,
forced their way into the
PLO office in mid--town Man-
hattan, fired two or three
shots at Masan Rahman, the
assistant director of the PLO
office and the only employe
there at the time, The shots
missed and the trio beat
Rahman with a lead pipe.
The three also tore out tele-
phone wires, overturned files
and fled according to police
reports.
Rahman was taken to
Bellevue Hospital where be
was treated for cuts and
bruises and reported in satis-
factory condition. After the
raid the United Press Inter-

Press received phone calls in
