Brandeis U. to Honor Detroiter

Ludington Sr., president of
the Ludington News Co., Inc.,
of Detroit, will receive Bran-
deis University's Distin-
guished Community Service
Award at a testimonial din-
ner Nov. 19, at New York's
Plaza Hotel.
The award, established in
1971, honors outstanding men
and women whose exception-
al contributions and concern
enrich the philanthropic and
organizational life of the loc-
al and national communities.

establishment of a new Vat-
ican Commission for Rela-
tions with the Jews was wel-
comed by the five major Jew-
ish organizations which make
up the International Jewish
Committee on Interreligious
Consultations (IJCIC).
In a joint statement, the
co-secretaries of IJCIC noted
that the new Vatican Corn-
mission grew out of a series
of annual consultations be-
tween representatives of the
Roman Catholic Church and

The next meeting between
representatives of IJCIC and
the newly establfished Vatican
Commission f o r Relations
with the Jews will take place
in Rome in January.

ment toward mutual trust
and cooperation in the inter-

Yariv to Address
Major UJA Event

NEW YORK — Aharon
Yariv, Israeli minister of in-
formation and the chief nego-
tiator for the Kilometer 101
disengagement talks follow-
ing the Yom Kippur War,
will be the guest of honor at
a special UJA leadership din-
ner Nov, 13 at the Hyatt
Regency in Chicago.
In addition, Sylva Zalman-
son, recently pardoned Soviet
Jewish activist and prisoner
of conscience, also will be
present.
Citing the forthcoming din-
ner as "an extraordinary and
historic meeting of the lead-
ers of the American Jewish
community," Paul Zucker-
man, UJA general chairman,
explained that it is "the first
major UJA event to be held
on the eve of the Council of
Jewish Federations and Wel-
fare Funds General Assem-
bly in that organization's 48-
year history."
