In addition, Sylva Zalman- son, recently pardoned Soviet Jewish activist and prisoner of conscience, also will be present. Citing the forthcoming din- ner as "an extraordinary and historic meeting of the lead- ers of the American Jewish community," Paul Zucker- man, UJA general chairman, explained that it is "the first major UJA event to be held on the eve of the Council of Jewish Federations and Wel- fare Funds General Assem- bly in that organization's 48- year history."
