Rabbi Goldman Exposes Halloween,
Non-Jewishness, UNICEF Guilt
Editor, The Jewish NeWs:
Thursday night, Oct. 31
is Halloween. It is the
hallowed evening or the vigil
of All Saints' Day and All
Souls' Day (Nov. 1 and
2). Both Halloween and
the two days that follow are
significant religious celebra-
tions of the Roman Catholic
Church and of many other
Christian denominations. Hal-
loween is not an American
holiday and it is not a secu-
lar holiday, 'by any stretch
of the imagination.
Nevertheless, every year
thousands of Jewish parents
dress their children in gay
costumes and wander the
streets in celebration of Hal-
loween, carrying lit pumpkin
heads, ringing doorbells for
the "Trick or Treat."
The travesty is that many
of these Jewish parents have
never told • their children
about Sukkot; the y have
never mentioned Hoshana
Rabba; and they just couldn't
make it for Simhat Torah,
They probably don't even
realize that in their "Hallow-
eening" they are indoctrinat-
ing their children in the ob-
servance of Christian holi-
days. Woe to the American
Jewish community that wit-
nesses this and does not raise
a cry of protest!
The collection of money for
UNICEF, in recent years
closely associated with the
Halloween celebration, only
adds insult to the injury.
UNICEF f u n d s are ear-
marked for 'Refugee Relief.
Whom do you think the UN
recognizes as refugees? Are
they the Jews expelled from
Arab lands who left their
homes in abject poverty with
no more than the shirts on
their backs*? Are they Russian
Jews who, after months of
harassment, find themselves
uprooted and in search of a
new life in a ttrange land?
No, these are not refugees
in the myopic • vision of the
UN. The Arabs who fled
Israel in 1948 and in 1967,
and their children and grand-
children, spread all over the
