Corp. to Expand Despite Losses;
Will Not Help Geneva Credit Bank

By EDWIN EYTAN
PARIS (JTA)—The board
of directors of the Israel
Corp. has decided to continue
and even expand. its activi-
ties in Israel. The board's
chairman, Baron Edmond de
Rothschild says, "The corn-
panyls financially strong. We
shall make up for the losses.
There is an important job to
be done and we plan to see
that it is done."
Rothschild was referring to
the potential loss of $8,500,000
deposited with financial con-
cerns directed by Geneva-
based banker Tibor Rosen-
baum.
Sources close to the cor-
poration say the board has
not discussed any plan to
help Rosenbaum's Interna-
tional Credit Bank, or his
other financial concerns.
Rothschild, these sources
say, is "strongly opposed" to
any possible dealings with
Rosenbaum and feels that the
only recourse open to the
corporation is "straightfor-
ward legal routine."
Sources believe the board's
decision not to help Rosen-
baum ends any hopes to re-
float his financial interests.
The corporation's Israeli
representative, Admiral Mor-
dehai Limon, told the board
that he countersigned the
documents transferring cor-
poration funds to either Ge-
neva or Lichtenstein "in the
normal and proper course of
business."
Limon- told the board that
"it 'was difficult for him as
- well as others to check on
all the transactions in which
Tzur was continually in-
volved." Michael Tzur is the
corporation's former manag-
ing director who was fired
by the board Sept. 27.
Limon also told the board
that neither he nor any other
member of the executive
committee "knowingly au-
thorized a transfer of funds
for deposit" in Rosenbaum's

Wiesenthal Finds
Nazi Criminal
In Toronto

VIENNA (JTA)—Nazi-hunt-
er Simon Wiesenthal has
urged the Canadian govern-
ment to take measures
against Imre Finta, a former
Hungarian police officer who
commanded the Jewish ghet-
to in Szegged in 1944 and co-
operated closely with Adolf
Eichmann in the deportation
of Jews to Auschwitz.
Wiesenthal, head' of the
Jewish documentation center
here, said Finta fled Hun-
gary after the war and emi-
grated to Canada, and now
operates a Toronto restaur-
ant.
Wiesenthal said that a
number of Jews who sur-
vived the Szegged ghetto and
who now live in Israel, Can-
ada and Hungary have indi-
cated they would be willing
to testify against Finta. He
said in a letter to the Cana-
dian authorities that Finta
was responsible for several
thousand deaths.
"He is described by wit-
nesses as a pitiless and cruel
ruler of the ghetto. He - did
not even help Jews from his
own circle of former friends
and fellow students. He did
not -show any gentleness or
charity," Wiesenthal wrote

trusts.
The corporation has been
under strong attack in Israeli
political and economic cir-
cles for losing money by
transferring funds to Rosen-
baum and for placing mon-
ies abroad instead of invest-
ing all available funds in Is-
rael's economy as is its stated
aim.
Rothschild also called on
the board's members to show
"unity of purpose," and ex-
pects to announce the name

of the new director general
at the next board meeting,
next month in Israel.
The ;board also expressed
its confidence in Limon's in-
tegrity and announced in a
communique that it finds "he
acted honestly and reason-
ably."
The ,board's decisions will
not conclude the Rosenbaum
scandal. The bank is still in
moratorium and its 12,000 de-
positors are not receiving
their money back.
