The degree was awarded to Lunenfeld "in recognition of his many years of activities on behalf of Israel and Jew- ish causes which included serving on the boards of major Jewish organizations in Canada, the United States and Israel." Now he was an honorary doctor of Bar-Ilan which also combined the best of two worlds—that of 'secu- lar knowledge and of the great Jewish heritage. With his son-in-law, Reuben Kunin, Lunenfeld has made substantial contributions to Israel. These include univer- sities, health and welfare services, scientific institutes and servicemen's organiza- tions. They have generously con- tributed to Bar-Ilan, includ- ing the Kunin-Lunenfeld Cen- ter for Life Sciences, class- rooms, facilities for profes- sors and the Kunin-Lunenfeld Student Residences.
