The course is conducted as
an academic course, and the
actual conversion is still in
the hands of the recommend-
ing rabbi. The curriculum,
approved by the Conservative
rabbinate, is presented as ob-
jectively as possible. It in-
cludes an analysis of the
basic beliefs of Judaism, the
difference between Judaism
and Christianity, a survey of
Jewish history and the Bible,
and a detailed discussion of
Jewish holidays, festivals,
customs, and ceremonies.
Covered are also an analysis
of the present situation of the
Jewish people, its community
structure, its major institu-
tions and organizations, as
well as the Orthodox, Con-
servative, and Reform posi-
tions in Judaism.-Discussion
and questions are encour-
