"Contemporary Jewish Fic-
tion: Bernard Malamud and
Philip Roth" is the subject of
a four-session literature study
course being offered this fall
by the Greater Detroit Sec-
tion, National Council of Jew-
ish Women.
Dr. Arnold Goldsmith, pro-
fessor of English at Wayne
State University, will be lec-
turer for the course which
will concentrate on two short
story collections, "Goodbye,
Columbus" by Philip Roth
and "The Magic Barrel"_ by
Bernard Malamud.
The series will be held
12:30 p.m. on four successive
Tuesday afternoons, Oct. 29,
Nov. 5, 12 and 19 at the
NCJW office. Guests are in-
vited, and there is a charge.

chairman is Barbara Grant.
Bay City-Midland-Saginaw-
Mt. Pleasant Committee for
State of Israel Bonds will
celebrate the 26th anniver-
sary of •srael's statehood
6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Bay
City Country Club.
Dr. Arieh Plotkin, noted
expert on Mideast affairs,
will be guest speaker. Honor
plaques will be awarded to
area banks.

Mrs. Helen Rosenfeld, mem -
bership chairman of Women
of JNF, has been responsible
for enrolling more than 200
members, and of that num-
ber, at least 50 have been life
members, as is Mrs. Rosen-
feld.
She has just added to the
total by the enrollment of her
sister, Mrs. Louis Wechsler,
and Mrs. Wechsler's daugh-
ter-in-law, Mrs. James Wechs-
ler, as well as her three
grandchildren, Juli age 6;
Lori, 4; and Amy, 2.
Mrs. Pearl Nosan, a life
member of JNF who planted
a forest in Israel in her hus-
band's memory in 1962, and
established a nahla near
Gonen, just below the Golan
Heights, in 1969 enrolled her
daughter, Mrs. Douglas Schu-
bot and Mrs. Schubot's daugh-
ter, Julie, into the Women of
JNF as life members.
Mrs. Schubot is a former
president of Young Women
of JNF, and remains an ac-
tive member of that organi-
zation. Her daughter, a grad-
uate of Temple Beth El, has
visited Israel twice. -
