Alluding to the published statement, the rabbis issued the following declaration refuting that claim: In response to inquiries, we state categorically that the question of kosher, or kashrut has nothing whatever to do with who may pick apples, grapes, tomatoes, lettuce or any other fruit or vegetables. The quality and standards of kashrut are not depend- ent upon any method or manner or pickers used in the collection of the particular fruit or vegetables, at the farm or grove.
