Mrs. Albert Newman, im-
mediate past president of
Hadassah, will be honored on
behalf of State of Israel
Bonds, as Hadassah's Worn-
an of the Year, noon Oct. 22
at Cong. Shaarey Zedek, an-
nounces Mrs. Jerome Kauf-
man, president of the Metro-
politan Detroit 'Chapter of
Hadassah.
A native of Montreal, Mrs.
Newman attended the Uni-
versity of Michigan where
she majored in journalism.
Mrs. Newman has been ac-
tive in community affairs for
several years. She has been
a member of Hadasah for
the past 30 years and has
held the posts of group pres-
ident, chapter president, na-
tional service committee
member and chairman of the
organiaztion department.
She also has worked with
the ladies auxiliary of the
Jewish National Fund, Bran-
deis University National Wo-
men's Committee, United
Foundation and the sister-
hood of Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
A recipient of the Jerusa-
lem City of Peace Award, she
has been to Israel four times,
and attended the Hadassah
mid-winter conference during
her inbst recent visit.
It was under the leadership
of Mrs. Newman as president
of Hadassah that the Detroit
chapter initiated its annual
Israel Bond drive.

to Benefit Health Projects Abroad

Michigan Region, Women's American ORT, is getting
ready for its ORT Safari '74 which will culminate in a,
donor luncheon and fashion show noon Thursday at Hud-
son's downtown, and will benefit ORT health projects
abroad. Attending to last minute details are, from left,

Michigan Region, Women's
American ORT, is preparing
for its ORT Safari '74, which
will culminate with a donor
luncheon and fashion show
noon Thursday at Hudson's
downtown.

Safari buses will leave
from Northland, by reserva-
tion only, for those who have
paid their donor contribution
but do not wish to drive. On
each Safari bus, a mystery
prize will be awarded to a
member or guest. Special
parking arrangements are
being offered by Hudson's
for those who wish to drive-
all-day parking at a nominal
fee. Music will be furnished.

Members of the Heart of
Gold Award council met at
United Foundation headquar-
ters recently to plan the 1975
award ceremonies. Some 40
women's organizations are
represented in the council.
Among the representatives
was Mrs. Daniel Shapiro of
the Leagues of Jewish Wom-
en's Organizations of Metro-
politan Detroit.
The1 council annually
honors 6 to 12 women for
their outstanding volunteer
work. Nominees may come

from any community in the
tri-county metropolitan area
and can be members of an
established organization, or
simply women working in
their own way to better their - )
communities.

Center Fall Program Still Has
Openings in Most Activities

A few openings still remain
in the fall semester of classes
at the Jewish Center.
Photography, dance,
drama, cooking, gardening,
physical education, swim and
art courses and an expanded
Hebrew program are many
of the opportunities offered
this year. For information,

The Center also announces
that its symphony orchestra
will begin its 35th season 3:30
p.m. Oct. 20, in the Aaron
DeRoy Theater. Mischa Lef-
kowitz, Russian violinist, will
perform Beethoven's Violin
Concerto, and guitarist, Mat-
thew Mischakoff, will per-
form Boccherini's Guitar
Concerto.
The Center Symphony is
conducted by Julius Chajes
who is beginning his 35th
year as conductor. Tickets
are available at the Center
ticket office.
A special series of
Sunday night musicales is
set to begin 8 p.m. Oct. 6, at
the Center 10 Mile branch.
A series of six musical even-
ings are planned through
March.
The opening musicale even-,
ing will feature Anne Jaffe,
soprano, accompanied by
pianist, Muriel Hoptman.
Also at the Center, another
season of senior adult person-
al growth seminars will begin
Oct. 14 at the main Jewish
Center. This program is con-
ducted in cooperation with
the continuum center of Oak-
land University, and is de-
signed to help seniors realize
their full potential.

UF Heart of Gold Award Group Meets

Small groups are formed
to discuss such elements of
older adult life as post-retire-
ment plans, interests and
family relationships.
Sessions are held on Mon-
day and Wednesdays. An or-
ientation session is scheduled
for Monday. There is a pro-
gram fee for the entire ser-
ies. Registration will be held
at the Center 10 Mile branch.

Sexuality Lecture
Due for Collegians

"Sex-Ucation: Mythology Re-
garding Human Sexuality,"
will be the topic of the first
"Series of Encounters," at
8 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Somer-
set Recreation Center, Troy.
Dr. Paul Piersall, director
of the Problems of Daily Liv-
ing Clinic at Sinai Hospital,
will lead the discussion.
The series is sponsored by
