Abba Eban Appearance at Akiva Day- SchOof
Anniversary Dinner Advanced to Oct. 31
Due to unforseen circum-
stances, affecting the sched-
ule of Abba Eban, the guest
speaker, the Akiva Day
School 10th anniversary din-
ner originally set for Oct. 20
has been advanced to Thurs-
day evening, Oct. 31 at the
Beth Achim social hall.
Max M. Fisher has accep-
ted the honorary chairman-
ship of the dinner.
Recognizing the import-
ance of the Akiva anniver-
sary and the world eminence
of the guest speaker, Fisher
expressed the hope that a
community - wide response
will be registered to the in-
vitations to the event.
"I hope the response will
bring a record attendance
to this important event,"
Fisher said." "Abba Eban
has earned the admiration in
which we all hold him, and
the dinner on Oct. 31 will be
an occasion for all of us to
honor him again."

Rabbis Refute as Untrue Kashrut
Claim on Labor Vegetable Pick
A recent statement in a labor publication alleging
that only those table grapes and lettuce picked by the
members of a particular labor union are "kosher" elicited
an explanation refuting it from the Vaad Harabonim, the
Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Detroit.
Alluding to the published statement, the rabbis issued
the following declaration refuting that claim:
In response to inquiries, we state categorically that
the question of kosher, or kashrut has nothing whatever
to do with who may pick apples, grapes, tomatoes, lettuce
or any other fruit or vegetables.
The quality and standards of kashrut are not depend-
ent upon any method or manner or pickers used in the
collection of the particular fruit or vegetables, at the
farm or grove.

be a full program of social
and recreational activities.
Kashrut, prayer, Shabat
and holidays will all be ob-
