Council of Orthodox Rabbis.
Recalling the community's
unprecedented demonstration
of economic support for Is-
rael in the crisis of war a
year ago, Rabbi Kapustin
emphasized that the back-
bone of that support came
from individuals and families
who purchased $1,000 or more
in Israel Bonds. This entitled-
them to membership in
"Shomrei Israel," the honor
society of those who watch
over. and promote Israel's
progress.
• He declared that the same
kind of wholehearted Israel
Bond response must now be
made to help Israel over-
come the present crisis of de-
velopment.
He explained that the peo-
ple of Israel are utilizing all
of their resources for de-

the country's economic de-

Under the supervision of the Council of Orthodox Rabbis

ing the highest taxes in the
world, making sharply in-
creased compulsory loans to
the government, and under-
going an austerity policy
aimed at checking one of the
highest inflatidn rates any-
where.
Rabbi Kapustin stressed
the fact that Israel BondS are
now more important than
ever to help Israel avoid
economic stagnation and
frustrating the hopes of new
immigrants for a productive
place in the economic life of
the country.
Rabbi Kapustin stated that
the Shomrei Israel 10 Days
of Rededication will be
launched in hundreds of sy-
nagogues in the United States
and Canada through special
Israel Bond appeals during
Yom Kippur services.
He indicated that the inten-
sive 10-day effort will cul-
minate on Oct. 6, which has
been designated as Shomrei
Israel National Day of Re-
dedication.
During that day, which oc-
curs toward the end of the
observance of Sukkot, special
committees of volunteers will
start out from breakfast
meetings in synagogues and
organizations to enroll the
maximum number of Jewish
families as Shomrei Israel
families through the pur-
chase of $1,000 or more in
Israel Bonds.
Trade and professional
groups will hold luncheon
meetings during the 10-day
period to advance the sale
of Israel Bonds at the Shom-
rei Israel level, he added.
