Pianist Given
Honorary PhD
JERUSALEM =. • Pianist
Artur Rubinstein, has been
awarded an honorary doctor-
ate from the Hebrew Univer-
sity of Jerusalem in a special
convocaton at the university's
Givat Ram campus.
The rector of the univer-
sity, Prof. Michael Rabin,
made the presentation to
Rubinstein before a distin-
guished gathering at the Wise
Auditorium, including Tour-
ism Minister Moshe Kol, Su-
p- s Court Justice Haim
, officials and judges of
the Artur Rubinstein Interna-
tional Piano Competition and
senior faculty members of
the university.
Rubinstein was previously
honored by the Hebrew Uni-
versity with a chair of musi-
cology established in his
name in 1964.
Prof. Rabin called Rubin-
stein a legend in his time, not
only a giant among the per-
formers of music, but a com-
plete man, and one who sees
himself as a Jew and asso-
ciates himself with the Jew-
ish people and the state of
Israel.
