NATE GURWIN died as he
-lived . . . fighting . . The
'ex-boxer, postal veteran and
son Jerry Gurwin's "right-
hand man" at their autobody
"klinic," finally took the 10
count after a five-year battle
that would have quickly
beaten the average man . . .
Even those days many years
ago when Nate and--brother
Sam "Sue" Gurwin would
stand back-to-back in the old
neighborhood, fighting off the
bunch of tough kids who in-
vaded their newspaper cor-
ner was a snap . . . Nate
never stopped fighting
throughout his life . ..wheth-
er it was for family or to
help others.
WHEN STEVE HOCH-
BERGER, 16-year-old son of
Irene and Morey Hochberger,
recently took first place in
the Detroit News Hole-In-
One Tournarrient, he also
achieved a couple of other
firsts . . . In the 37 years
of the tournament, says his
proud aunt Eleanor Fitzer-
man (Robert), he was the
youngest player ever to win
. . . Also, writes Aunt El-
eanor, it was the first time
an amateur was able to ac-
cent the prize . . . a set of
golf clubs . . . without chang-
ing his amateur standing.
CHILDREN'S DEPT . .
Saying his ' prayers last
week, little Craig Feldman,
six-year-old son of Millie and
Jay Feldman, ended with,
. . . and please make
Arnie stop throwing stones
at me. By the way, I've men-
tioned this before." . . . Little
Ronnie Meyers, son of ex-
Detroiters Max and Sylvia
Meyers, went to school in
Miami a couple of weeks
ago, carrying an excuse to
his teacher . . . "Please ex-
cuse Ronnie for being absent.
He has a new brother. It
was not his fault."

Steve's custom work has nev-.
er failed to win a blue rib-
bon at custom clothing con-
ventions . . . and that among
his original creations are
some of the world's most el-

SEAFOOD SPECIAL

22—Friday, Sept. 20, 1974

I OPEN MON.-SAT. FROM 11:30 A.M.

WHILE RITA AND IRV-
ING Lipsky were in Las
Vegas, her plan was being
carried out back home for
Irving's recent surprise
birthday party . . . Around
70 people were in the shock-
er, including their daughter
Marlene Balan from San
Jose, Calif . . . This is the
second in a series of sur-
prises, says Rita . . . She
had one for Irving on his
40th.
TIME IS DRAWING near
for the 25-year reunion of
1949 Central High graduates
. . with efforts doubled to
find as many alumni as pos-
sible . . Contact Sally (Leb-
owitz) Levine, 545-7447, or
Adel]. (Abromovich) Ozro-
vitz, 545-6163.
AS IS THE USUAL whim
among many little children,
Anne Sue Green, six-year-old
daughter of Shirley and Lou
Green, reported to her moth-
er that she was off to see
the world, . . . Shirley said
she would pack her a lunch
and wished Anne Sue the
best of luck, saying that if
she ever wanted to come
back home, her daddy and
mother would always be
waiting . . . It all seemed
serious until little Anne Sue
burst out crying, "But mom-
my, what'll I do when it gets
dark outside?"
