More than 1,500 persons
attended the dedication serv-
ice at Temple Beth El Friday
as the temple membership
began a three-day schedule
of dedication ceremonies.
Friday's service included a
processional of the temple's
rabbis, board of directors
and special participants; a
Torah service, dedication of
the new menora and eternal
light, lighting of the Shabat
candles, a dedication sermon
and benediction.
Rabbi Alfred Gottschalk,
president of Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of
Religion and a longtime
friend of Rabbi Richard
Hertz of Beth El, delivered
the dedication sermon in
which he expressed congratu-
latory remarks to the temple
membership on the comple-
tion of the temple.
The temple choir, directed

by Mrs. Jason H. Tickton,
rendered the opening anthem
of "L'Cha Dodi." Prof. Jason
H. Tickton was accompanist.
In his opening remarks,
Rabbi Hertz told his audience
that they had come to "dedi-
cate this temple of the 21st
Century." Rabbi Gottschalk,
in his address, said that the
new temple bears the "sim-
plicity and starkness of
Judaism."
Executive secretary, Irving
Katz, read from the Torah.
