THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
JERUSALEM (JTA)-•or-
eign Minister Yigal Allon
told the Kness•t Wednesday
that Israel has received a
satisfactory explanation from
the United States of the joint
American - Jordanian com-
munique of Aug. 18. He said
the explanation was a re-
sponse to an Israeli message
requesting clarification.
The communique, by Presi-
dent Gerald Ford, and King
Hussein called for continu-
ing consultations between
Amman and Washington
"with a view to addressing
at an appropriately early
date the issues of particular
concern to Jordan, including
a Jordanian-Israeli disen-
gagement agreement."
Allon did not disclose the
contents of the American ex-
planation. But he quoted Sec-
retary of State Henry A.
Kissinger's remarks at a
press conference in Washing-
ton last week to the effect
that there were different ver-
sions of disengagement.

U. S. Delegate
Barred Israel
Appeal at UN
UNITED NATIONS (JTA)
- Observers here expressed
surprise that Rudolph Carter,
adviser for political and se-
curity affairs to the U.S. Mis-
sion, was the only represent-
ative to the sub-commission
on prevention of discrimina-
tion and protection of
minorities that objected
when Israeli Ambassador
Jacob Barmore sought an ex-
tension of time to finish his
presentation on the plight of
Syrian and Soviet Jews.
The observers, who termed
Carter's behavior "erratic,"
also noted he was the only
delegate to object to Bar-
more's right to reply after
the Soviet and Arab delegates
launched a vitriolic attack
against Israel.
Prior to being given the
right to make his formal
presentation there was a de-
liberate attempt by the Soviet
representatives to prevent
Barmore from speaking al-
together. They argued that
the item concerning Soviet
and Syrian Jews had been
exhausted and should not be
reopened.
Carter and others, at that
point, used their influence to
have Barmore make his pres-
entation.
However, when the Rus-
sians complained that Bar-
more was running one minute
beyond the 10 minutes allotted
for making presentations to
the sub-commission, Carter
was the only representative
who objected to an extension
of *me or two minutes more
to allow Barmore to finish.
The Israeli diplmat is an ob-
server to the sub-catimission.

The first Jewish high school
in Bergen County will open
Sept. 8, a joint project of
three county synagogues and
the Jewish affairs bureau of
the Jewish Federation of
Community Services, accord-
ing to Max M. Kleinbaum,
federation executive director.
The Bergen County High
School of Jewish Studies will
use classroom facilities of
the Frisch day school in Par-
amus. With a first-year bud-
get of $16,000, the school
which will meet Sunday
mornings from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m., is expected •to
attract at least 100 students
between the ages of 13 and
18 during its first year, Klein-
baum told the Jewish Tele-
graphic Agency.
Courses will cover a wide
range of Jewish subjects,
with each student enrolling in
three one-hour courses for
each term.
Murderer Is Found
of Dutch-Jewish Girl
AMSTERDAM (JTA) -
Dutch police have found the
murderer of the 10-year-old
daughter of Arthur Isaac,
the head of Amsterdam's
major department store "De
Bijenkorf."
Isaac's youngest daughter,
Helen, was found strangled
to death Aug. 6 not far from
her home. After intense po-
lice interrogation, a 52-year-
old man whose name was not
disclosed confessed to the
crime.
He also confessed to the
murder the years ago of
10-year-old Bastiaan Bloe-
mena, the son of another
wealthy family in the Isaac
neighborhood. Bas-
tiaan's mother is Jewish.
Police say the two murders
were the act of a sexual per-
vert and not related to anti-
Semitic motivation. The man
in police custody is a peddler
