JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Israeli rabbis have approved
the use of dried pig skin in
grafts for persons who have
suffered severe burns.
The relatively new method,
developed in the 'U.S., has
been used successfully on
Israeli soldiers badly burned
during the Yom Kippur War.
The rabbis who were consult-
ed said the method was ac-
ceptable because it involved

pie that religious law may be

life.
Large quantities of pigskin,
dried by a special process
that permits storage, have
been sent to Israel from the
U.S. since the war last Octo-
ber. A report on its use was
presented at the fifth inter-
national congress of the
Transplant Society held here.
Prof. Nahum Ben Hur, of
Shaare Zedek Hospital, one
of the experts who introduced
the system to Israel, told a
press conference that pig
skin proved to be the best
skin graft.
About 10 per cent of Is-
rael's war wounded suffered
from burns necessitating skin
grafts.

Pardon Seen for Defendant
in Lillehammer Murder Trial
COPENHAGEN (JTA)—A
Norwegian newspaper pre-
dicts that the Norwegian gov-
ernment will pardon Marian
Gladnikof, one of the alleged
Israeli agents convicted in
connection with the murder
of a Moroccan citizen and
now serving a 6 1/2-year jail
sentence here.
The Norwegian daily, Af-
ten Posten, bases its predic-
tion on that fact that "over
the past few years all appli-
cations for pardon have been
granted."
Jonas Myhre, Miss Gladni-
kof's attorney, has submitted
a request for her pardon to
Norwegian authorities. It will
be up for review before the
special judicial committee
when this body reconvenes at
the end of the summer recess.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — A
summary of a 160-page study
on Israel by a 29-member
mission sponsored by George
Washington University em-
phasized that "despite Is-
rael's frequent involvement
in warfare, its institutions
exhibit a unique commitment
to hum an e educational
values."
"Such is a major theme
and conclusion" of the study
conducted last November,
according to its editors,
Sharon Enright, assistant di-
rector of the university's edu-
cational staff seminar, and
John Shultz, editor of the
Public Law Education Insti-
tute.
The mission, entitled "Im-
pression of Education in Is-
rael," was prepared by fed-
eral government education
aides and others under the
university's educational semi-
nar. The mission was headed
by Dr. Samuel Halperin, di-
rector of the university's in-
stitute for educational leader-
ship.
"Even the paramilitary

ing Israeli youth for military
F.ervice, spends much of its
time working with street cor-
ner gangs and delinquent
youths trying to insure that
they make a positive contri-
hution to society," the study
summary said.
Miss Gladnikof and five
other alleged Israeli agents
were convicted of espionage
and complicity in the slaying
of a Moroccan waiter, Ahmed
Boushicki, at the Lilleham-
mer resort town in eastern
Norway last summer.
Five of the six received
sentences ranging from 6 1/2
to nine years. They are all •
Jewish and claim to be resi-
dents of Israel.
