Jennie Weiss, 88,
Longtime Resident
Jennie Weiss, a Flint resi-
dent for the past 45 years,
died Aug. 20 at age 88.
Born in Hungary, Mrs.
Weiss was a member of Tem-
ple Beth El. She is survived
by two brothers, Dr. Isadore
Singerman of Los Angeles
and Alex Singer of Detroit; a
sister, Julia Ring of Detroit;
a granddaughter, Mrs. Martin
Siegel; and a grandson, Rob-
ert Weiss of Grand Blanc.

Leadership Course
Enrollment Filled
The Flint Jewish Commun-
ity Council announces that
the maximum number of peo-
ple have enrolled in its ad-
vanced leadership program,
a scholar-in-residence p r o -
gram designed to run 16
sessions.
The course is under the di-
rection of Profs. J e h u d a
Reinharz, Zvi Gitelman and
Herbert Paper, all noted
scholars at the University of
Michigan. The course will be-
gin with a coffee hour to
meet the professors, Oct. 10,
and the first class will be
held Oct. 15.
Ford Asks Clerics
' Aid Amnesty Plan'
NEW YORK — President
Gerald Ford has been asked
to involve religious leaders
in developing the process and
machinery which w o ul d
grant partial amnesty for
those young people who re-
fused to fight in the Vietnam
War.
In a communication to the
President, the Union of
American Hebrew Congrega-
tions (Reform), lauded Ford
for his "courageous" state-
ment on amnesty before the
Veterans of Foreign Wars in
Chicago.
The letter signed by Rabbi
Balfour Brickner, co-direr
of the UAHC's department _
social action, declared: "Be-
cause this is an issue which
confronts the moral con-
science of the nation, we urge
you to involve representa-
tives from America's organi-
zed religious groups to help
instruct those who you have
asked to report to you on 'the
full spectrum of American
opinion on this controversial
question.' "

Church. The team's record

Max Engelman, son of Dr.
and Mrs. Ray Engelman,
shot two rounds of 72 to win
the second annual Michigan
Junior Amateur Golf cham-
pionship by four strokes. Max
is a member of the Flint Jun-
ior Golf Association. He was
a participant in the 1973 Is-
rael Summer Scholarship
Program and chairman of
the Youth UJA drive last fall.
