CORDO N, Ruth Katzen, Court Counselor, Active in Many Women's Ranks in many women's movements, died Ruth Naomi Katzen, prom- inent native Detroiter who Musical Entertainment Big Bands or Small Combos 626-3346 has been active Aug. 15, at age 64. Funeral services were held in Kauf- man Chapel Sunday morning. Surviving are her husband, Maxwell, daughter, Ann, and son, James. A graduate of the Univer- sity of Michigan and having earned her master's degree from Wayne State Univer- sity, Mrs. Katzen had served as a marriage counselor for the Wayne County Circuit Court. • She was a lifetime member of Shaarey Zedek and with her husband, who was co- chairman of the synagogue's cultural commission, s h e played an active role in or- ganizing the synagogue's edu- cational programs. She was active in the synagogue sis- terhood for many years. Her numerous other affili- ations included Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women. Women's American ORT, Sinai Women's Guild and National AssociatiOn of Social Workers. She served on many boards including Fresh Air Society and Oakland County Chapter of Michigan Society for Men- tal Health. Karbal, director of the Learning Resource Center at Cong. Shaarey Zedek, will be in Louisyille, Ky., Sunday to conduct a workshop for the teachers of Louisville. Reuben Resnik, executive director of the Bureau of Jewish Education of Louis- ville, who extended the invi- tation to Karbal, announced that more than 60 teachers will participate in the work- shop. The -workshop will deal with the individualization of instruction, open classroom and the creation of materials for learning centers. The presentation will include an original program on the Holocaust, produced by Kar- bal and an original video tape on the open classroom in the Jewish school, pro- duced by Karbal and Rabbi Gerald Teller, education di- rector of Cong.
