Rabbi Heschel - was widely viewed as the leading Jewish philosopher in the mid-20th Century. His activities in- cluded writing and teaching and participation in social and political spheres. The film is an interview with Dr. Heschel and ,NBC n e-w s correspondent, Carl Stern. It was taped approxi- mately 10 days prior to Dr. Heschel's untimely death early in 1973. During the discussion, Dr. Heschel explains his involve- ment in contemporary social and political activities as a necessary response to Juda- ism's concept of God's need for man to help with the work of redemption. A coffee hour will precede the evening program, begin- ning at 9:15 p.m. in the synagogue social hall. At 11:15 p.m., in the sanctu- ary of the synagogue the Slichot Service will usher in the High Holy Days.
