Called "Yearnings—Prayer and Meditation for the Day-s- of Awe," it is the second edition of a booklet first issued in 1968 as an updated adjunct to the High Holy Day Prayer Book. Edited by Rabbi Jules Harlow, it also includes readings and pray- ers on such subjects as the plight of Soviet •Jewry, peace in the Middle East in the wake of the Yom Kippur War and the 6,000.000 Jews killed in the Nazi Holocaust. In announcing the publica- tion of "Yearnings," Rabbi Mordecai Waxman, president of the Rabbinical Assembly, said that it "allows members of congregations to become personally and vocally in- volved in liturgical reactions to topical events, giving a modern relevancy to prayer in accordance with the spirit of the traditional Jewish ser- vice.
