Synagogue Pens Prayer for Ford In response to President Gerald Ford's request that Americans offer prayers on his behalf, Cong. Shaarey Zedek offered a prayer at its Aug. 10 services. The prayer, composed by Rabbi Irwin Groner, read in part: "We have lived through a dark and painful period in our nation's history. Those entrusted with authority did abuse it. The highest office in the land was darkened by ever lengthening shadows of legal and moral wrongdoing. . "We are grateful to Thee, 0 Lord, for what this ordeal has taught us. We are a gov- ernment of laws and not of men. These laws are design. ed to protect the rights of the weak against the strong, to defend the liberties of the individual against the tyranny of the powerful. We have re- learned an old lesson: that the opinion of all the people is wiser than the opinion of any one man, of any small group of men. "Heavenly Father we ask Thy blessing on Gerald Ford as he becomes the President of the United States. Mayest Thou, 0 Lord, to whom alone belong the dominion and the power, be his support in the fulfillment of his awesome trust, thrust upon him by un- precedented events in the FOR AMERICA AND FOR YOL./* *. • . Power Failures Strike Israel Adat Shalom to Celebrate First Shabat Morning Bat Mitzva In a move to provide for greater involvement for young women in Shabat serv- ices, the ritual committee board of trustees of Adat Shalom Synagogue, one year ago, adopted a new policy for the celebration of a girl's attaining the age of Bat Mitzva. Under these procedures, a young lady who has reached the age of 14 and who has completed her Judaic studies through at least one year of secondary education, is entitled to be called to the Torah on Shabat morning for the Maftir Aliya and to chant the Haftara. The synagogue announces Andrea Rosen, daughter of Beth Achim Talks Set on Bicentennial In preparation for the country's bicentennial cele- bration, Cong.
