Steven Cohen, assistant
professor of sociology at
Queens College, City -Univer-
sity of New York, will be
guest speaker at the Flint
Jewish Community Council's
annual dinner-meeting 6 p.m.
Sept. 8 at Cong. Beth Israel.
He will speak on "Dilemmas
and Dynamics of Campus
Jewry, 1967-1975."
At age 24, Cohen was the
youngest person ever to re-
ceive a doctorate from Co-
lumbia University's depart-
ment of sociology. President
of the North American Jew-
ish Students Appeal, he has
served on the governing
boards of several national
student organizations includ-
ing Network, the Jewish Stu-
dent Press Service and the
Student Struggle for Soviet
Jewry.
While at Columbia, Cohen
served as president of the
local Zionist group, editor of
the Jewish Free Press (the
campus Jewish student news-
paper), chairman of the coun-
cil of Jewish organizations,
and administrator of Beit
Ephraim, the communal resi-
dence and activities center
which he helped organize
two years ago. _

Israel Bank Assets
Hit $3 Billion Mark

The Ann Lebster Memorial
Fund this summer provided
scholarships to three Flint
youths for two trips to Israel
and an assistance at Camp
Oconomowoc in addition to
confirmation awards.
Established in 1965 by the
late Louis Lebster in memory
of his wife, the fund began
with donations from him and
from members of the Flint
Jewish community. Its pur-
pose is to promote Jewish
education and culture among
the youth of the community
and to expand educational
resources..
In the past, the fund has
awarded books and medals
for scholastic achievement
and camperships for young-
sters from Cong. Beth Israel
and Temple Beth El.
Chairman of the fund is
Marcus Lebster. Administra-
tors include the rabbis and
presidents of Beth Israel and
Beth El, chairman of the
education commission of the
Flint Jewish Community
Council,- president of Beth
Israel Sisterhood and two
members of the family.
Applications for summer
1975 scholarships may be
made during the fall and
winter at the council office.
