grants prefer rural settle-
ments, according to a study
conducted by the absorption
ministry. The study showed
that almost half of those im-
migrants join villages

wide variety of educational,
recreational and counseling
services is provided to Jew-
ish day schools in the metro-
politan area by community
centers and YM-YWHAs and
other agencies of the Federa-
tion of Jewish Philanthropies
of Greater New York for both
academic year and summer
programs.
The Hebrew Free Loan
Society provides interest-free
loans to Jewish day schools
for projects requiring finan-
cial assistance. Last year,
upwards of $700,000 was pro-
vided to day schools serving
children from Conservative,
Orthodox and hasidic fami-
lies in all boroughs and in
Westchester and Long Island.
