The telegram re a d in part: "I am sure there is no need for me to spell out for you the critical nature of Is- rael's current economic sit- uation and the new measures which the government was forced to take to meet the budget and to keep the econ- omy in check. In June alone there was a drop of $120,000,- Flint JCC Names Publicity Chairman The Jewish News page for the Flint Jewish Community Council will be coordinated by Mrs. Ronald Goldstein, it was announced by Michael A. IN MEMORIAM Twenty-four R u s - sian Jewish litera- ry and communal leaders were exe- cuted by Joseph Sta- lin on Aug. 12, 1952. Among them were D a v id Bergelson, Peretz Markish, It- zik Feffer, David Hoffshtein, Leyb KVitko, Solomon Lo- zo v sk y, Benjamin Zuskin and Eliahu Spivak. This is the 22nd anniversary of the "Night of the Murdered Poets." In their mass death, the s e massacred Jewish poets, these inextinguish- able souls, sent us their last alert. What we must do in unity with them is to heed it, not to shrink away in hor- ror, but to spread this alert, and wher- ever the Jewish self, is threatened, to re- act, with all the strength of the liv- ing, and to remem- ber that the perse- cution of Russian Jews has not ended and the threat to the very existence of the people of Israel has not diminished. VAL KOL YLSROEL MURRAY MOSS 000 in Israel's foreign cur- rency reserves. "The situation is a direct consequence of the Yom Kip- pur War and the necessity to meet even heavier defense commitments today. The peo- ple of Israel are being asked to carry an almost intoler- able burden; a burden far greater than they have ever had to bear before. "This means that the Jew- ish people, through the Jew- ish Agency, must take on an even larger share of the re- sponsibility for meeting vital immigration and absorption needs as well as the host of human needs in all areas generated in the aftermath of the Yom Kippur War."
