A. J. Goldentha:, unoppos-

nation for Congress in the
17th district, this week out-
lined his attitudes on Israel
and related issues.
Grandson of a professor
of linguistics at the Uuniver-
sity of Berlin and nephew
of an associate of Theodor
Herzl he stated:
"I recall the recitations of
the poems of the Yiddish
poet, Morris Rosenfeld—my
aunt's father—on the bitter
life in the New York ghetto.
His biography by my uncle,
Dr. Leon Goldenthal, was re-
viewed in The Detroit Jewish

"My first cousin migrated
to Israel from Romania about

"The achievement of peace

of Soviet Jewry and the lift-

Says Women Need
Voice in Congress

Kathleen Straus, Democra-
tic candidate for Congress in
the 17th Congressional Dis-
trict, has challenged• her five
male opponents on the issue
of representation of the more
than 200,000 women in the
district.
"It is essential," Mrs.
Strass said, "that there be a
voice for women in Congress
-from Michigan."
"Social Security reform,
long fought for by Rep.
(Martha) Griffiths, is high
on my priority list. Women
who work in their own homes
as housewives and mothers
contribute to the national
economy and should earn
credits in the Social Security
system in their own homes."
A bill has been introduced
by Mrs. Griffiths and Bar-
bara Jordan of Texas to
effect this change, which
Mrs. Straus would work hard
in Congress to pass, she said.
Mrs. Straus further pledged
to seek a Defense Depart-
ment budget cut of up to
$10,000,000,000 as an anti-
inflation measure.
Mrs. Straus has proposed
programs for expanding tui-
tion loans to college students
from middle-income families
and a new federal campaign
law to regulate expenditures.
