she was taken by her parents
from her native Casablanca
to Israel to escape growing
anti-Jewish sentiments in
Morocco, just as was Judy
Alma, another Hebrew artist
appearing in town, who was
born in Marakesh and still
has the scar on her forehead
from a pogrom in her native
town.
Aliza points to the hun-
dreds of thousands of French-
speaking people in North
Africa" and Asia Minor,
Christians and Jews, who fled
when Arab nationalism en-
gulfed the Middle East. Hard-
ly anyone ever hears from
them or about their casual-
ties. Those who are not head-
liners on the international
stage or screen are com-
pletely forgotten.
Miss Azikri paid her toll for
survival; both of her parents
were killed in Israel's War for
Independence. Yet, when the
sparkingly beautiful exotic
lady comes out to greet the
audience in Hebrew, Greek,
French and Arabic, there is
no malice but only love and
understanding. It never hap-
ens that anyone at the "Ath-
enian Gardens," a huge sup-
per-club favored by Greeks,
Turks, , Armenians, sabras,
American Jews, and Arabs
from many lands, will object
to Aliza's handshake and joy-
ous "Shalom."
After a two and a half-year
term in the Israeli army,
Aliza appeared in the title
role of the musical, "Irma
La Douce," at the Habima in
Tel Aviv. Signed to a record-
ing contract, her song,
"Na'Ara Mamash Otzar" be-
came the No. 1•hit of the
year. While on tour abroad,

"The Man in the Glass
Booth" the controversial Rob-
ert Shaw play, adapted for
the screen by Academy-
Award-winning writer Ed-
Ward Anhalt, has gone before
the cameras in Hollywood
under the- auspices of Ely
Landau's "American Film
Theater." We are told that
the ironical twist of the ori-
ginal has been retained.
The yarn concerns a fellow
named Arthur Goldman (who
claims to be a Jew but could
be someone like Eichmann)
captured in New York by
Israeli agents and brought to
trial in Jerusalem for crimes
against humanity. The story
unfolds in sinister and sus-
penseful vignettes, interspers-
ed with halting moments of
recollection, self-accusations
and regrets, to culminate with
a sharply dramatic statement
about man's frailties in gen-
eral.
