Terrorisis Repo rtedly Arrested in Syria, Clash in Lebanon
I NEW YORK—Press serv-
ces report that Palestinian
.rrorists are being disarmed
and arrested as Syria works
.with United Nations forces in
i ne Golan Heights to prevent
^rrorists from crossing the
..ease-fire lines into Israel.
The reports support specu-
lation that Hafez al-Assad,
:.ria's president, had given
ral assurances to Secretary
State Henry Kissinger that
yria would not allow ter-
rists to operate against Is-
'rom the Syrian side of
( ..:ease-fire line.
L According to sources quot-
:..d. by the pro-Iraqi news-
aLaper Beirut, a terrorist
;roue that supports a Middle
East
settlement has dismis-
__
ed its members in Syria and
urned their weapons over to

The sources also asserted
that moderate elements with-
in the terrorist movement had
canceled plans for as many
as 30 terrorist suicide mis-
sions inside Israel.
In Syria, 37 members of
the most extremist group, the
Popular Front for the Libera-
tion of Palestine, General
Command were said to have
been arrested.
Meanwhile, Palestinian guer-
rillas and Lebanese rightists
called a halt Wednesday to
four days of clashes on the
outskirts of Beirut, ending
the worst fighting near the
Lebanese capital in a year.
The guerrillas and the right-
wing Phalangist Party's mili-
tia agreed to end clashes in
the southern Beirut suburb of
Dikwaneh. Fighting began to
die down right away and
came to a halt at midnight.
Preliminary reports from
guerrilla and militia sources
said at least four comman-
dos were killed.
The Phalangists say terror-
ist control over Palestinian
refugee camps violates Leb-
anon's sovereignty. The party
wants the camps brought un-
der supervision of Lebanese
security forces.
Lebanese government of-
ficials interceded to end the
fighting, meeting with dele-
gates of the warring factions
until the ceasefire was
agreed on.
The accord provides for the
establishment of joint patrols
—under government supervi-
sion—to enforce a truce in
the region.
The terrorists claim to rep-
resent all Palestinians and
want control over any inde-
pendent Palestinian state
that may be established on
occupied territory yielded by
Israel as a result of peace
negotiations in Geneva, even
if it is set up on the west
bank of the Jordan--river.
