THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, August 2, 1974 15 "AMERICA AND ISRAEL HAVE A COMMON DESTINY" BILL BRODHEAD DEMOCRAT FOR CONGRESS 17TH DISTRICT BRODHEAD ON Y.S.-ISRAEL RELATIONS "I believe in continuing American assistance to Israel in its efforts to repel aggression and preserve its democracy. "I support a permanent peace solution based on recognized defensible boundaries. "Before Congress makes any more trade concessions to the Soviet Union, we must demand concessions from them on emigration of Soviet Jews." THE DETROIT FREE PRESS SAID IN ITS ENDORSEMENT . . . . we believe that the person best qualified by experience, by temperament, by ideals and by ability is State Rep. WILLIAM M. BRODHEAD. In fact, we believe Rep. Brodhead could quickly become one of the best congressmen in the entire Michigan delegation, "At 32, Brodhead is a veteran of two terms in the Michigan Legislature. He has been an effective—and we emphasize that word—rather than merely a showy legislator. - His record in a number of areas is solid: in support of a transportation system for Southeast Michigan, on consumer issues, on education. "The great compliment to Rep. Brodhead is that, in the relatively strong field in the congressional primary, he still looks like the class of the group. We believe he holds far greater promise of effective service than any of the others. "In the era of Watergate, we believe one point about Bill Brodhead may be more attractive than anything else: his campaign is not the slickest, or the best financed, or the most sharply defined ideologically. He often seems, in fact, somewhat shy or self-effacing. But we believe he is a man with the character and the judgement to live with temptations and frustrations of politics today and to hold on to his convictions. "Therefore, we would urge the voters in the 17th district Democratic primary to promote .William Brodhead and to make him their nominee for Congress."
